Construction, installation and operation of a system to filter seawater into fresh water to serve the daily needs of islanders using ROCHEM RO membrane technology.

– Project name: Centralized water supply system of Con Co island district.

– Location: People’s Committee of Con Co island district, Quang Tri province.

– Capacity: 200 m3/day and night.

2. Input parameters for the system

  • Type and level of construction: Level III technical infrastructure construction.
  • Input water: seawater, allowable concentration of substances up to 45,000 ppm.

3. Proposed technological solutions

Applying reverse osmosis (RO) technology to treat seawater into fresh water.

In this technology, the raw water flows crosswise through the reverse osmosis membrane, suspended substances, bacteria and viruses are separated to obtain a quantity of pure water permeating through the membrane. The purified water after treatment has a TDS of 340-500 mg/l, ensuring drinking water standards.

3.1 Technological advantages

  • Treating seawater with TDS concentration can fluctuate up to 45,000 mg/l.
  • Eliminate most bacteria in the water;
  • Save underground water resources, water quality after treatment ensures to meet the requirements according to the regulations in the National Technical Regulations of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

3.2 Disadvantages of technology

  • Requires a stable power source, has many machines and equipment so consumes a certain amount of energy.
  • Limited water recovery rate.
  • Limited filter membrane life.

4. Processing results of the seawater filtration system into fresh water

The project has been completed and handed over to the investor.
